I want the whole Christ for my Saviour, the whole Bible for my book, the whole Church for my fellowship, and the whole world for my mission field.  John Wesley

Our love to God is measured by our everyday fellowship with others and the love it displays. Andrew Murray

When a Christian shuns fellowship with other Christians, the devil smiles. When he stops studying the Bible, the devil laughs. When he stops praying, the devil shouts for joy.   Corrie Ten Boom

Human fellowship can go to great lengths, but not all the way. Fellowship with God can go to all lengths.   Oswald Chambers

Aloneness can lead to loneliness. God’s preventative for loneliness is intimacy – meaningful, open, sharing relationships with one another. In Christ we have the capacity for the fulfilling sense of belonging which comes from intimate fellowship with God and with other believers.   Neil T. Anderson

Not to be in fellowship with those who are born again is to be guilty of schism, which is sinful.  Martyn Lloyd-Jones

Most church members live so far below the standard, you would have to backslide to be in fellowship with them.    Vance Havner

Fellowship means among other things that we are ready to receive of Christ from others. Other believers minister Christ to me, and I am ready to receive.   Watchman Nee

On the other hand, were we to permit to remain even the tiniest little sin which we know our conscience has condemned, we instantly would lose that perfect fellowship with God.  Watchman Nee

There is a brotherhood within the body of believers, and the Lord Jesus Christ is the common denominator. Friendship and fellowship are the legal tender among believers.    J. Vernon McGee

We get in the grip of doubt and straightway we turn from the fellowship of those who know the Lord to the fellowship of those who confessedly do not know Him.     Clovis G. Chappell

He (God) usually prefers to work through people rather than perform miracles, so that we will depend on each other for fellowship.   Rick Warren

Since God is within Himself a fellowship, it means that His moral creatures who are made in His image find fullness of life only within a fellowship. This is reflected in marriage, in the home, in society and above all in the church whose koinonia is built upon the fellowship of the three Persons. Christian fellowship is, therefore, the divinest thing on earth, the earthly counterpart of the divine life, as Christ indeed prayed for his followers: “That they may all be one; even as Thou, Father, art in Me, and I in Thee, that they also may be in Us” (Jn. 17:21).   J. Hampton Keathley III

If you are afraid of hospitality – that you don’t have much personal strength or personal wealth – good. Then you won’t intimidate anybody. You will depend all the more on God’s grace. You will look all the more to the work of Christ and not your own work. And what a blessing people will get in your simple home or little apartment.    John Piper

People go wrong in their fellowships before they go wrong in their doctrine.  John R. Rice

Some Christians try to go to heaven alone, in solitude. But believers are not compared to bears or lions or other animals that wander alone. Those who belong to Christ are sheep in this respect, that they love to get together. Sheep go in flocks, and so do God’s people.    Charles Spurgeon

Satan always hates Christian fellowship; it is his policy to keep Christians apart. Anything which can divide saints from one another he delights in. He attaches far more importance to godly intercourse than we do. Since union is strength, he does his best to promote separation. Charles Spurgeon

There are many elements that go into the total concept of fellowship, as it is described in the New Testament, but the sharing together in suffering is one of the most profitable. It probably unites our hearts together in Christ more than any other aspect of fellowship.   Jerry Bridges

It goes against the grain to give an image of oneself that is anything less than perfect, and many Christians imagine that they will be rejected by others if they admit to any faults. But nothing could be more destructive to Christian koinonia (fellowship) than the common practice today of pretending not to have any problems.   Ray C. Stedman

Whomever the Lord has adopted and deemed worthy of His fellowship ought to prepare themselves for a hard, toilsome, and unquiet life, crammed with very many and various kinds of evil.   John Calvin

Association promotes assimilation. A Christian who lives in isolation from other believers will fail to receive the blessings as well as the maturity resulting from godly interaction.   Joel R. Beeke

Satan watches for those vessels that sail without a convoy.   George Swinnock

Let those be thy choicest companions who have made Christ their chief companion.   Thomas Brooks

One simple way to cultivate koinonia (fellowship) is to ask questions designed to turn a conversation in a more spiritual direction. Here’s a list to work from:

  1. How is your (teaching, hospitality, outreach, deacon, or whatever) ministry going? What do you enjoy most about it?
  2. Where have you seen the Lord at work lately?
  3. What’s the Lord been teaching you recently?
  4. Have you had any evangelistic opportunities lately?
  5. Have you had any obvious answers to prayer recently?
  6. Where in the Bible have you been reading lately? What impact has it had on you?
  7. How can I pray for you?
  8. What’s the growth point in your life right now?
  9. What are you passionate about right now?
